Who is Christiann Koepke?
I am a person who believes in living with intention; being in the moment, finding beauty in everything around you, and savoring every sip of a good cup of coffee (multiple times a day is totally acceptable – :)). I am a professional who is passionate about bringing beauty to others through photography, flavors, and design. Which always feels like catching a butterfly… then letting it go. It never gets old.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
There are so many. Growing up in Montana was kind of a magical place for a kid. Just thinking of the landscape and big open sky stirs my heart and reminds me to breathe and savor every moment. Waking up to the smell of coffee coming from the kitchen all those mornings… well, that is probably the origin of my coffee love actually… But let me see…if I had to choose a memory that is my absolute favorite?
I think it would be how we would spend every meal around the table together as a family. Nothing fancy; usually meat and potatoes! But the togetherness is what I treasure now looking back, more than anything.
If you could have a do-over in life, what would you do differently?
Nothing. I have no regrets and am passionate about living life to the fullest in every area of my life. I value the great times as much as the difficult times. Life is not meant to be only “blue skies and sunny days”.
As a way of life, I’ve chosen to embrace every season as it strengthens me to grow.
What do you feel most proud of?
I am most proud of being wild enough to chase after seemingly impossible dreams and then in turn, having the honor of bringing beauty into people’s lives everyday. I love providing inspiration for the one thing that sustains us as individuals and also brings us together – food.
There is nothing better than hearing from this amazing community – the happily solo singles who want to have friends over for brunch, and someone who wants to impress their “sweet other”, and also parents who want inspiring, delicious recipes for their family.
I even love hearing or seeing how people remix my recipes to add their own spin. We are certainly living in challenging, interesting times and it feels good to remind people that life really is beautiful.
If you could keep only 3 possessions, what would they be and why?
I would keep my camera, of course! Cannot imagine life without it, and if you can only have 3 possessions, something major must have happened so I would need to capture it all, obviously : ) .
A good sturdy bowl is a must have. I can mix up, crush, and make just about anything with bowl. You can make utensils out of sticks so yes, a bowl is my second item.
My third possession would be the largest bag of coffee beans I could carry. Would even be willing go super big and drag it 😉
What do you want your tombstone to say?
Grateful for a beautiful and blessed life, shared with those I love.
What are some of your current passion projects?
A cookbook that helps people slow down, cook with intention, and create beauty.
Helping people maximize and enjoy their weekends with a great brunch! Have I mentioned that I love brunch? I mean, you get to sleep late and feast without an eye on the clock. Surely there is nothing better… well, than a cup of coffee, of course.
Traveling the world and sharing the experiences I discover through food and the connection it brings with other cultures.
What is your favorite kind of coffee?
I am fan of Chemex coffee – it’s just so light and smooth. I also love to find fresh, exciting ways to bring coffee into my recipe curation – like Cold Brew, because, well for one it’s delicious, and two, it makes an incredible ice cream! Just in case you want to try it, here’s my recipe for Vegan Cold Brew Ice Cream with Salted Bourbon Caramel Sauce. And just one more for good measure, these Chocolate Espresso Muffins are totally to die for. Promise.
In which coffee shops are we likely to bump into you?
Well Portland is the #1 food city in the country… and with that naturally comes a fantastic coffee shop selections.
As if living in the best foodie city in America wasn’t enough, Portland actually has the highest percentage of highly rated coffee places in the country and ranks #3 for the best coffee city. I. Am. In. Heaven.
What does a perfect day look like?
I am big fan of weekends – I LOVE to savor moments, and a day off allows me to do so. My perfect day starts slow. Sleep late, sip my first cup of coffee, spend some time outside exploring my city (or new city) with my camera in tow… discover a new place the speaks to my inner foodie… and pop into a cafe to look at photos over coffee.
The perfect day would end with sweet friends, amazing food & drink, and plenty of laughter.
