Humans of coffee: Zoë Brown

Who is Zoë Brown? I’m just an ordinary girl with an extra ordinary job. I am a presenter and the unofficial DIY’er on the Expresso morning show on SABC 3. I’m also a radio presenter on the Cape’s number one hit music station, KFM. Apart from having a career in the media industry, I’ve completed my honors in a BA International Relations degree. What’s your best childhood memory? One of my favourite childhood memories was created in the kitchen. I really wanted to impress my aunt and bake her a coffee cake. The recipe called for a cup of coffee to be added to the mixture and that was what I did. I added 250g of instant coffee powder to the mixture instead of making a cup (one teaspoon of coffee with hot water)! My cake came out rock-hard and completely inedible. If you had a chance for a “do-over” in life, what would you do differently? They say that hindsight is perfect vision, although I don’t regret any decisions that I’ve made, I would …

Humans of coffee: Jo-Ann Strauss

Who is Jo-Ann Strauss? I am a multi-faceted woman who is still trying to figure out what she wants to be when she grows up, but has no intention of growing up too quickly. I am a mom, a wife, a media entrepreneur and enjoy the absence of routine in my life. What is your best childhood memory? My baby brother (he is four years younger) and I riding our BMX bikes around the neighbourhood streets – we grew up in Blackheath in the Western Cape. He had a blue one and mine was red. We would ride through puddles in the gravel roads of our hood and splash each other wet much to our amusement and my mom’s consternation. If you had a chance for a “do-over” in life, what would you do differently? I would probably buy a few properties that I didn’t think I could afford back then. I look at how much I’ve learnt about the property market and realise how my gut instinct was often right and my fears sometimes …

Humans of coffee: Shashi Naidoo

Who is Shashi Naidoo? I love life, and with me, what you see is what you get. I’m a straightforward person and as open as a book. I live my life positively and love hard. However, I vigorously stand up for what I believe in and defend the ones I love. I’m a quirky social butterfly and a driven entrepreneur at the same time. I’m a  self-confessed shoe addict and fashion lover. I pride myself in, what I believe, is  a fabulous collection from all over the world – an investment piece here and a bargain find there, so to speak. I consider myself to be so blessed to have a job that allows me to travel and see the world. One of my greatest passions is interior decorating and if I wasn’t doing what I do now I would be following in the footsteps of my design icon, Kelly Hoppen. I actually did the interiors of my own home and its my pride and joy! When you’re my friend, you’re also my family. I …

Humans of coffee: Brett Rogers

Who is Brett Rogers? Thats a strong philosophical start to this interview! I’m not sure we have enough time for me to self analyse. 🙂 That said, I’m a good guy who was raised right. I have strong opinions with the strength of character to stand behind them, as well as being humble enough to listen to differing views. I have great friends, great family, and a killer music collection. I swear a lot, I cant resist sparkling wine, I adore art and anything aesthetically pleasing. I’m a person who wants to do things, so generally I say yes to things and give a solid account of myself. My chameleonic talents allow for me to learn quickly. I’m terrible at maths, remembering faces. I cant make rice, but make a mean spaghetti Aglio e Olio. I love fashion, the colour black, conversations and debates. I prefer consciousness over blind happiness. What is your best childhood memory? My family holidays in Knysna are some of my happiest. I have an incredibly large family and we all used to congregate over December at my …
